Our thin-client,
browser-like solution, PEDirect is TCP/IP based and
is best suited for a gradual conversion to GUI or if
internet access is not required. PEDirect is
thin-client. It provides development tools that
enable you to build GUI interfaces for COBOL
applications which operate entirely on an
applications server. The COBOL GUI screens run on
TCP/IP communications enabled client PCs running
Microsoft Windows.
PEDirect connects to
the host text application via TCP/IP. PEDirect makes
it a very easy to develop true Windows applications
in COBOL. All necessary templates, instructions and
examples are supplied.
This user interface
design and development tool supports the ability to
build GUI screens and incorporate them into COBOL
programs quickly and easily. There is no
"middle" layer of software to contend with.
PEDirect supports
Windows Active X Controls, Frame Controls, Windows
Property Boxes, Windows Status Bars and many other
advanced Windows GUI features, enabling you to put a
modern GUI front end on your COBOL program. All are
driven by special PEDirect commands written directly
into your COBOL program.

across the Internet. The source code may be viewed here.
PEDirect is a genuine
software re-engineering transformation of the
user-interface, while retaining the use of back-end
logic. PEDirect is not screen-scraping technology; it
provides the flexibility you need to create/tailor
your presentation interface without the restrictions
imposed by screen scraping technology. PEDirect
neatly converts character screen positions into the
web's (DHTML) x-y co-ordinates.
PEDirect supports many
COBOL compilers transparently.
Because PEDirect
utilizes the TCP/IP protocol, your application can
operate on an Intranet or across the Internet.
PEDirect is very efficient because it displays your
screen only one time, and modifies only the fields
that require input - the original form never needs to
be redrawn. When each subsequent data field is
updated, that data can be validated without waiting
for the entire form to be submitted. This speeds up
your application and reduces client, server, and
database possessing requirements.
