PEWeb is browser
enabled and is used to deploy COBOL applications on
the World Wide Web . It provides development tools
that enable you to build GUI (DHTML) interfaces for
COBOL applications that are accessible through your
browser. Both Netscape Navigator and Microsoft
Internet Explorer are supported.
Because PEWeb utilizes
the TCP/IP protocol, your application can operate on
an Intranet or across the Internet. PEWeb is very
efficient because it displays your screen only one
time, and modifies only the fields that require input
- the original form never needs to be redrawn. When
each subsequent data field is updated, that data can
be validated without waiting for the entire form to
be submitted. This speeds up your application and
reduces client, server, and database possessing
requirements. PEWeb includes automatic version
control to ease the task of maintenance, 128 bit
encryption to provide data security and data
compression to increase data transmission speed.
PEWeb is a special
purpose connectivity device operating between Windows
and many text-based systems. It is an ActiveX.dll
component for IIS, providing access to the
text-system via Telnet. Clients are browsers. Its key
feature allows the building of graphical user
interfaces with DHTML that is generated by the text
serving COBOL program. All supporting ASP,s,
instructions, and examples are provided.

The
browser-user-interface (BUI) is a significant feature
of PEWeb, and it's key web-enabling features include:
1) Persistent or non-persistent connections
2) Connects to conventional text serving programs
3) Field-by-field interactivity or batch processing
of forms
4) Web-server may be IIS or Apache (batch only)
5) Multiple client options
6) Uses fast and reliable Telnet
7) GUI driven by application-side processing
