A Robot for File Transfer by Email
PixieRobot DetailsExtract Datafrom the WWW
Introduction
PixieRobot has two main automated and unattended functions, which can also be run interactively in an immediate mode.
Processing "File Transfers" - Used to send emails with attachments, containing files, between systems. Attachments could contain such things as database updates, or source code. Application systems could drop-off or receive files from the PixierRobot message folders. Processing "Web Pages" - Used to gather data from the web and store on a local machine for subsequent processing. For example emailing to another system.
PixieRobot may be used in many scenarios where data is needed to be exchanged between servers. For example sending source code updates, database updates, web extracts from the "other use" of PixieRobot.
PixieRobot In Email Mode Provides:
"Improved communications with business partners". Pixierobot™ is a robot email application which can send and receive data by email, for an application server.
"Communicates with diverse systems". Pixierobot™ collects and delivers messages and also "attachment" files to "drop boxes" which are Windows file system folders. Emails can therefore be sent and received from any program or system that has access to the Windows file system.
"A very reliable method for remote transfer of data". Email is a commonly used and reliable industry standard for transmitting data files in the form of attachments.
"A very flexible method for remote transfer of data".Uses the Windows scripting facilities to make Pixierobot™ programmable in VBSCRIPT. Pixierobot™ runs the script whenever mail arrives (e.g. a script can be used to redistribute incoming messages and attachments elsewhere in the system or LAN).
Key Features
Send and receive emails and attachments. Can send emails with multiple TOs, CCs, BCCs, and attachments. Configuration through console and Scripting. Automatically maps and sends emails to recipients using outgoing attachment file extensions. Inexpensive. PixieRobot appears as a system tray icon. Automatic start-up with computer or to a pre-set schedule. Can create default "drop boxes" Configuration options include
- Map file extensions to particular recipients
- Change directory paths of "drop boxes"
- Optional archiving of messages and attachments
- Setting activation intervals
- Switch mode between test (leave emails on server) and production (delete emails from server)
Scripting
PixieRobot™ makes use of the Windows Scripting facilities so it is programmable in VBSCRIPT. PixieRobot™ optionally runs these scripts for each incoming message. Users can carry out custom processing of incoming messages and attachments. For example:
- Distributing attachments to other folders according to their extensions or who the sender was.
- Remote reconfiguration of PixieRobot™ by sending command messages
PixieRobot™ as a VBSCRIPT host provides an object model, which means functions and methods have easy access to the files of messages and attachments, and their contents.
Examples:
- Archive
(True/False)- AttachMove, AttachCopy
(moves/copies attachment with optional renaming)- MsgMove, MsgCopy
(moves/copies message with optional renaming)- Restart
(restart the PixieRobot server - useful for remote control or scheduled reconfiguration)Summary: PixieRobot™ can:
- Mail-sort and redistribute messages and attachments
- Re-arrange (e.g. reformat) mail contents
- Zip/Unzip attachments (requires Winzip®)
