• On the Pick side, a user installs a general purpose backserver program and defines the queries for the data that needs to be extracted.

Pixieware® software - Facts

• Pixieware (Web & GUI) are not "screen scraping" technologies, but are genuine software re-engineering techniques. Some programming is required to change the user-interface, while retaining the use of back-end logic.

• Connects directly to Pick Basic application programs, or to TCL, via a creative use of sockets (TCP/IP).

• Pixieware products do NOT utilise ODBC/JDBC, MVDBMS side web servers, or any other proprietary pipe or objects into the actual database.

Pixierobot™ software - 

• PixieRobot is a "robot email application, which can send and receive data by email for a Pick server. PixieRobot.exe collects and delivers messages and also "attachment" files to "drop boxes" which are Windows file system folders. 

• By linking these folders to Pick D3 as "Super Q pointers, to Universe via Type 1/19 files, or to AP via Dos Services Gateway, Pick becomes email capable.

• Email is a very flexible and reliable method for remote transfer of data.

• We are now making use of the Windows scripting facilities to make PixieRobot programmable in VBSCRIPT. PixieRobot can run your script whenever mail arrives. As an example a script can be used to redistribute incoming messages and attachments elsewhere in the system or LAN.

Non-Pick Environments

• Pixieware® software is universal in principal, insofar as host text applications are concerned, and connection is via TCP/IP. While we have initially concentrated our efforts on the PICK environment, any text-based environment with TCP/IP capabilities is a candidate. We don't need to know how the database works, that's the job of the application program to talk to the database. We re-use legacy code. We do not employ ODBC, but have developed a clever socket interface. With Pixieware®, we can also connect serially to older non-TCP/IP capable, text applications.

• To utilise Pixieware®, screen I/O statements need to have tags added, to drive the relevant User Interface (Pixieweb - html, Pixielink - modified XML). If a program, or a 4GL and its generated programs, are capable of being modified in such a way, then Pixieware® software may be used.
