This page is the focal point for PixieWare Software's migration of its software tools into the Non-Pick World. The first tried, tested and proven Non-PICK environment is filePro. The same issues and concerns that are evident in the Pick World are evident in other long established computer environments. The design, technologies and techniques employed in the development of the PixieWare software should ensure that their capabilities are usable outside of the Pick arena. Our latest achievement to make PixieWeb® (PEWeb for non-PICK) work in a 4GL environment called filePro®. The PixieWare® software is universal in principal, as host text application connection is via TCP/IP. While we have initially concentrated our efforts on the PICK environment, any text-based environment with TCP/IP capabilities is a candidate. We don't need to know how the database works, it's the job of the application program to talk to the database. We re-use legacy code. We do not employ ODBC, but have developed a clever socket interface. With PixieWare®, we can also connect serially to older non-TCP/IP capable, text applications. To utilise PixieWare®, screen I/O statements need to have HTML tags added, to drive the Graphical User Interface (GUI). Both PixieWeb and PixieLink (PEDirect for non-PICK) understand HTML and DHTML. If a program, or a 4GL and its generated programs, are capable of being modified to generate HTML, then PixieWare® software may be used. The following text based languages have been tested successfully. Refer to individual section for tested environments.
