Why Microsoft NT / IIS |
Circa June 1999
We have made a very conscious decision about the direction our PixiewareŽ software products have taken over the past two years, and will take in the future. We believe that we cannot be all things to all people and that we should concentrate our resources on one platform (Microsoft NT / IIS), and aim for excellence in our area of specialty. We accept and respect that there are different views to our own, but we have made our decision based on the following facts.
- Natural evolution from Pick Basic to Visual Basic for our experienced Pick staff
- Good performance
- Good reliability
- Good scalability
- Wide variety of tools and add-ons
- Many mission critical (large) users
- Low total cost of ownership per user
- Easy to develop GUI applications
- Increasing popularity of the platform
- Interoperability with Unix based MV databases
Circa Feb 2001
We have been made aware quite clearly that some non-adopters of our software chose not to work with us because of our line-up with Microsoft/NT/IIS/VB. Now we have developed a base of MS users, it is time to review our position. This year (2001) we will embark on a series of R & D projects that will move us onto the Linux/Apache/Java platform. We will upgrade our skills accordingly.
Circa Jan 2002
As of Jan 2002 we can use the PixieWare technology to make Apache connect directly to a PICK program via Telnet. We do not employ Phantom ports in this process.
